First to announce certification

In June 2008, Standards Australia released the complete AS4123, a standard for the manufacture of Mobile Garbage Bins (MGBs) commonly known as wheelie bins. SULO Australia is the first manufacturer to announce their certification to this stringent standard.

The Australian MGB Standard is divided up into several categories: dimensions and design, performance requirements, testing methods, colours, markings and recycled content of an MGB.

All MGBs manufactured by SULO are certified with this standard and are tested to meet the above requirements.

SULO’s Director of Manufacturing, Thorsten Voss, whom was on the committee that developed AS4123, stated “Australia was one of the few countries where MGBs were present that did not have a national standard. Now the market can compare ‘apples with apples’, using AS4123 as the benchmark. And a very good benchmark it is.”

Mr Voss continued by explaining that the AS4123 was formulated using references to the European standard EN840 and the RAL- GZ951 Quality Mark. This means that MGBs in Australia now require initial type testing certification and regular ongoing batch testing to ensure the standard is met, at all times. This has elevated the quality requirements on all manufacturers.

Mr Voss continued, “Being certified means that SULO guarantees product quality through consistent manufacturing and we now have a certificate of accreditation that proves it”.
